ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The Amway Center performed host to a National Voter Registration Day event on Tuesday.
Orange County’s Supervisor of Elections Bill Cowles stated they’d 25 folks register to vote.
Of the 25, Cowles stated 22 had been Orange County residents and three had been from Seminole County.
Having the voter registration event on the Amway Center inspired some to return out.
“I want to vote; I want my voice to be heard and be counted like everybody else,” stated Orange County resident, Silvia Caban.
Cowles stated the partnership with the Orlando Magic has been useful in getting the phrase out.
“It was a movement started basically by LeBron James, his foundation, to get out the vote and to use venues for voting,” Cowles stated.
He stated Orlando Magic participant Mo Bamba then began the initiative right here and the staff reached out to his workplace.
It’s all part of a motion throughout the NBA to supply up arenas as early voting areas.
And it’s one thing Orlando Magic head coach Steve Clifford stated has been essential for them as a staff.
“There’s so many things we can do, racism in general, we could talk about it. All of those conversations are healthy, but the way that you make change is you change laws, you change policies,” Clifford stated.
Cowles stated the deadline to register, for individuals who have by no means registered within the state of Florida, is Oct. 5.
